Frequently asked questions:
Is it necessary to pre-register? Yes, players will only be permitted to check in if they have registered. You may register on-site the day of tryouts. However, we highly recommend pre-registering to ensure players are ready to play when tryouts begin.
When will I be notified about the tryout results? Players will be notified within 24-72 hours. In rare and exceptional cases, that timeline might be lengthened in which case the player and/or player’s family will be notified of the extension.
What do the coaches look for during tryouts? Players are evaluated on their technical skill, tactical decision making, physical ability, and psychological/social development.
What do I need to bring to tryouts? Shin guards are mandatory to try out. All players should bring their shin guards, soccer cleats, water, and weather-appropriate training clothes. Players should not wear any club gear, including TC gear.
Can I tryout for an older team? We strongly encourage players to play for their birth year age group. Every player must attend his or her own age group for the first tryout session. If you want your child to also tryout with an older team, make a request at doc@tcunited.org. Play up players are decided on a year-to-year basis with approval from the Director of Coaching.
Who can tryout for TC United? Any player seeking an opportunity to participate on a competitive team. TC United is open to all players regardless of where a player has previously been affiliated. Our youngest players often come from Chinqually Booters, Olympia United, and other local recreational clubs. Older players who are new to the club often come from the other competitive clubs in the region. Most of our players live in Thurston County, but we also have players from across the South Sound region.
Do returning TC United players need to tryout? Yes. All players must tryout each year. TC United players should not wear any club gear to tryouts.
What happens at tryouts? Tryouts consist of small sided games and large sided games observed by our coaching staff and evaluators. Our thorough evaluation process examines and scores an individual player's technique, decision making, physical ability, and social/psychological development. Players will be observed and scored based on their assigned training vest number. Score sheets are not made public or shared outside of the staff. Coaches and evaluators are not allowed to score their own child.
What if I cannot attend one or both tryout dates? In the case of unavoidable conflicts, please contact doc@tcunited.org. He can advise you on how best to proceed. What is included in the player fees?
Why didn't I get a confirmation that I registered for tryouts? Everyone who registers will be sent a confirmation email. If you don't receive this email, it could be that your email provider is currently rejecting emails from GotSport and no_reply@gotsoccer.com. To resolve this issue, please log into your email provider settings and attempt to "Whitelist" GotSport and no_reply@gotsoccer.com. This will give your email provider permission to allow emails from GotSport to be delivered. This sometimes happens as a Spam prevention feature, as the message could contain several BCC's and your email thinks it's Spam, so adds our name to a blacklist.
