Is it necessary to pre-register?
Yes! Players will only be permitted to check in if they have registered.
When will I be notified about the tryout results?
TCU asks it coaches to notify players no later than 48 hours after the age group’s last tryout. In rare and exceptional cases, that timeline might be lengthened in which case the player and/or player’s family will be notified of the extension.
What do the coaches look for during tryouts?
Players are evaluated on their technical skill, tactical decision making, physical ability, and psychological/social development. Players who exhibit a strong work ethic and who display a respect for the game, coaches, and fellow players will show well.
What do I need to bring to tryouts?
All players should bring their soccer cleats, shin guards, a water bottle, and weather-appropriate training clothes. Returning TC United players: DO NOT wear your club uniform or practice gear.
Can I tryout for an older team?
Every player must attend his or her own age group for the first tryout session. If you want your child to also tryout with an older team, make a request at manager@tcunited.org. We strongly encourage players to play for their birth year age group. However, there are exceptions that may be allowed by our Director of Coaching.
Who can tryout for TC United?
Any player seeking an opportunity to participate on a competitive team. TC United is open to all players regardless of where a player has previously been affiliated. Our youngest players often come from Chinqually Booters, Olympia United, and other local recreational clubs. Older player players who are new to the club often come from the other competitive clubs in the region. Most of our players live in Thurston County, but we also have players from across the South Sound region.
Do returning TC United players need to tryout?
Yes. All players must tryout each year. TC United players should not wear any club gear to tryouts.
Is TC United only for Chinqually players?
No, TC United is open to all players regardless of where a player has played before.
How much does it cost to tryout?
Tryouts are free.
What happens at tryouts?
Tryouts consist of small sided games and large sided games observed by our coaching staff and guest evaluators. Our thorough evaluation process examines and scores an individual player's technique, decision making, physical ability, and social/psychological development. Players will be observed and scored based off the assigned training vest number. Returning players aren't given any special preference over new players at tryouts. Coaches and evaluators are not allowed to score their own child.
Do I have to attend all tryout sessions?
Yes, the more sessions you attend, the greater the opportunity you have to show your abilities to the evaluators. In the case of unavoidable conflicts, please contact manager@tcunited.org. He can advise you on how best to proceed.
What if I cannot attend tryouts entirely?
While we encourage that you accommodate your schedule to attend the tryouts as posted, if this is not possible please contact manager@tcunited.org to make the proper arrangements. Our program has processes in place to evaluate a single player during two training sessions over our spring/summer session.
What if I am sick, injured, or have to miss tryouts entirely?
In the case of unavoidable conflicts or injuries that impact your ability to participate in the tryouts you must register for the tryouts to be eligible for a make-up tryout date with the formed teams. Please contact manager@tcunited.org to inform us of your reasoning for missing tryouts and to schedule a make-up date
